FAQ

What is the situation with the process stability of wear and tear tools in series production scenarios?
Process stability is safeguarded by calibrating tools, adapting parameters and/or feed rates, and similar measures.

What about repetitive accuracy for preparations of cutting tools, precision and finely cut workpieces, etc.?
This is fundamentally ensured with PROFIN systems by means of a database-supported machine control system and software in which the processes and tool changes can be mapped.

What tolerances can be adhered to with FLAKKOTING?
Series production-compliant tolerances of under 5 µm are possible with FLAKKOTING processes.

What preparation shapes and sizes can be FLAKKOTED?
Exact radius forms with K-factor 1, trumpet forms up to K-factor 3, and waterfall forms up a K factor of 0.4. Preparations between 3 and 60 µm can be machined and produced with no problems at all.

How can chipping be reduced or eliminated altogether with FLAKKOTING?
Chipping can be eliminated to a large extent (rippling), or even totally, depending on the grinding quality and the correspondingly varying chipping in conjunction with the size of the preparation.

How can surfaces be enhanced?
Dependent upon their initial state, surfaces can be refined, specifically structured or polished up to a high-gloss finish with FLAKKOTING.

Is FLAKKOTING a wet or a dry process?
FLAKKOTING can be performed as a wet or a dry process dependent upon how the surfaces have been prepared. Macromolecular plastic filaments were developed many years ago to provide this capability.

What about tool wear with FLAKKOTING?
The parameters for the tools used in FLAKKOTING processes are ideally selected so that they glide gently for an optimised chip removal rate. The tool wear for each machined workpiece is consequently kept to an absolute minimum and the costs are extremely low.

How quickly can tools be changed on FLAKKOTING systems?
Our specially developed fast tool clamping systems allow for tool changes in under 1 minute per tool.

How time-consuming is the machinery maintenance with FLAKKOTING systems?
The consistent use of separation systems means that drives, guide mechanisms and sensors, etc. are protected against exposure to the abrasive grinding materials. The maintenance requirements for FLAKKOTING systems are correspondingly minimal.
